My kids wear sunglasses. They have since they were babies. I had gotten ones that wrapped around their heads, so they would stay on, as infants. Both of them have such colored eyes, I figured it was better to get them into wearing shades.
A few people, on the first day it wasn't sunny out, and we had to pick up Little Miss at school, commented that it was the first time they'd ever seen The Boy's whole face, and his eyes. They can't get over his lashes, and how much the kids look alike.
So the shades are basically their signature look. Everywhere we go, they have them on, and these days, even when it isn't sunny out. Dance, school, Jiu Jitsu, tennis.......the library. Wherever we go, the sunglasses go, too.
Both of numerous pairs of sunglasses.......which brings me to the Great Sunglass Mystery.
Little Miss got Blingles for her birthday. It's basically a toy that you can make "jeweled stickers" with, and stick them on various things. Daddy and Little Miss Blingled her purple/pink Barbie shades. Super cute rainbow in the corner of the lens. She begged to wear them to school. I said "I guess so."
Normally, she wears her Tinker Bell ones to school. They are scratched up, and if she wears them on the playground, I don't mind if they get a little beat up. The Barbie ones? Well, they were fairly new, and I preferred she didn't bring them to school.
She did good......until this week. They went missing. Now, Daddy brings her to school on Wednesdays. I sleep in, so I don't see her when she leaves. When I picked her up at school, she didn't have the sunglasses on, but there are many times she doesn't wear them to school, because it is raining, or overcast. I didn't think much of it.
Thursday morning came around, it was BRIGHT AND SUNNY, and when I went to grab her sunglasses, they weren't in their usual spot. I asked her where they were, she said "I don't know." I asked if she wore them to school on Wednesday, she said "Yes, and I put them in the side pocket while I was walking in the hallway to class."
I YELLED " You lost them? SERIOUSLY? I'm not excited about this. No sunglasses at all today. And you will ask to see if they are in lost and found." Then I spun back around and said "Check your dance bag, because you wore them to dance class."
She ran down the hall, came back and said "Not in there."
While I was buckling her brother into the car, I asked her "Are you sure you didn't leave them in your dance bag on Tuesday?" She shook her head "No, I wore them to school yesterday with Daddy."
Okay, guess they are gone forever, I said out loud, but made a mental note to check her dance bag later. She was too fast in her room. Couldn't have checked that bag that fast.
I got her off the bus that day, asked her if she checked her lost and found at school. She said they weren't in there. I shrugged and said "Guess they are gone forever."
We were in a rush to get schoolwork done, then get her ready for Jiu Jitsu, so we rushed around. When we returned home, I went to her room, found her dance bag and MYSTERY SOLVED. The glasses were there.
I came out, asked her "Are you positive you wore your sunglasses to school on Wednesday?" She said with a roll of her eyes and her hand on her hip, "Yes, Mommy. We already went over this."
With a raised eyebrow, and a hand on MY HIP I answered "That's amazing, because here they are." I took them out from behind my back. She smiled and asked "Where did you find them?"
Hand still firmly on my hip I held them in front of her little face and said "Next time I ask you if you checked your dance bag for them, you better check your dance bag for them. YOU DIG?"
Hey, TEENAGE YEARS, I'm not excited about how you'll be if this is how she is at SIX.
