My son, The Boy, has a very good memory. I have a calendar that I have to do each month. It's got an Elvis plate at the top with the month on it, then you change the wooden numbers on the bottom to match that month's dates....I believe they call them perpetual calendars.
So each month I update it, pull the old plate down, put the new plate up. It is already so into June, that I skipped ahead to July! LOL.
But anyway, I began taking the little wooden numbers off the calendar and my son shot off into the kitchen and was yelling/whining. I couldn't imagine what he was getting so riled up about, so I went in and found him trying to get the step stool from the kitchen......he remembered that Mommy usually needs the step stool when she is doing the calendar. He's only seen me do it three times this particular year, so I find it really cool that he remembered and actually wanted to try and help out by getting the step stool for me. SO CUTE.
And that's not all my son does. I think I have written before about him helping put Little Miss's slippers away in the morning and shoes at night, but he also throws his own diaper away in the trash (just the wet ones that I wrap up tight). He opens the trash can, puts the diaper in and closes it. I love it. Little Miss did that, too, once upon a time. She has since been potty trained and now cleans up after herself at the sink after washing her hands.
Both of them love to help with laundry. Little Miss started out pulling clothing out for me to fold, too fast for me to keep up and The Boy does this same thing now. Little Miss is now folding washcloths, pulling things inside out and starting to fold her clothing a little bit. She can hang her shirts on hangers, along with her brothers shirts. It amazes me they both want to help so much and get VERY ANGRY when I do it without them. I'll take it while I can get it!
I love that my kids are always "doing their part" and helping Mommy out! I know once they hit a certain age I will not get this kind of help from them without nagging them, but MAYBE if I keep making it fun for them, it might stick with us? I know, just let me dream, okay?!!
