I guess now that we have taken the battle of "wills" out of the equation, no one is as picky anymore. However, our quest to get them eating a larger variety of foods is still why I call them my Picky Eaters. So the label stays for now!
This week was a big week and it's only Wednesday!
My daughter, the ever amazing palette that she has, said she tasted honey, like in the cheerios we like. Amazing. I still can't believe she came to me and said "I taste some honey in here, Mommy. Like the cheerios Daddy gets us sometimes for a treat." And then went on her merry way.
BOTH kids loved the cereal and the next day I asked if they would want to try it with milk and eat it with a spoon. Both agreed and BOOM, I've got kids that eat cereal like real humans now. Not all the time, but once in a while. I'll take it!
For lunch that day, while his sister was at school, I asked my son what he'd like for lunch. He led me to the fridge and when I opened it, he pointed to the grape jelly and looked at me and said "Yelly, please. Like Daddy."
**BACKSTORY: My husband, the ever amazing foodie that he is, loves to eat saltine crackers with butter and jelly on them on Saturday or Sunday mornings. Yes, I am telling you this even though it's just plain BIZARRE.
Okay, so there we are, my son wants "yelly" like daddy. I asked him if we could put the butter and jelly on a bagel. And he nodded vigorously and said "BA-GEL, Yeah, yeah." So there we sat, my son eating a bagel with butter and jelly. Thank goodness he's taking Juice Plus+, because I don't really think grape jelly falls into any category for fruit servings per day. But he loved it. And he ate it without a battle. HAPPY MOMMY.
Finally, there was the homemade chicken soup. Yup, that's right. This little Mama actually made homemade chicken soup. We had gotten a Perdue Roaster Chicken on sale last week. I made it on Thursday and then sent my husband out for celery, carrots and an onion to make soup with the leftover chicken. DELICIOUS. It cooked all day and made the house smell amazing on Tuesday.
To my surprise, BOTH children wanted to try it. Amazingly, my daughter LOVED IT. Asked for more. My son just sort of played with it. And the spoon. He had a couple of slurps and was done. Playtime for the rest of the time.
Our adventurous week ended last night, as the rest of the week is the same old, same old. Spaghetti, chicken and whatever else I can find around the house they will eat. Perhaps one night of breakfast for dinner, since they love waffles and will now eat eggs.
What to do with all of these choices..........
