Is there anyone who doesn't FAVOR one child over another?

Did you see the article about how "moms can hurt their kids?" It's all about how moms who favor one child over another can hurt their child, and their entire family. It makes no mention of how damaging it can be for a DAD to favor one child over another, though........

Isn't that always the case? It's always the mother, right? WTF? I don't have enough stress in my life, I have to worry about if I'm showing favoritism? I don't know about you, but on any given day I like one child more than the other ALL DAY LONG. It just changes throughout the day.

Let's go through our day here with the Scorpios, shall we?

  1. First thing in the morning: I wake up each morning, and wake the brats up. I mean, the little darlings up. Guess which one is my favorite? The one that gets up without being screamed at to get out of bed, get dressed, and wash up, and BRUSH TEETH. Yes, that would be my daughter. MOST OF THE TIME.
  2. Time for Breakfast: Guess who my favorite one is for this time of the day? The one who can go into the fridge, pick out a Cherry Yogurt, get a spoon, open the yogurt, and eat it without me helping the child ONE LITTLE BIT. Again, my daughter.
  3. School Time: It's time to bundle up, load up into the car which is FREEZING COLD, and drop off the eldest child at school. My favorite at this point? The one that DOESN'T HAVE TO GO TO SCHOOL UNTIL NOON, it's f-ing warmer at noon! I curse the older child, so this one goes to my son.
  4. School PICK UP: Toss up on the days I have to pick them both up. Whoever gets into the car fastest, and gets us home fastest, is my favorite that day! But, let's see.....two days a week, my daughter takes the bus home. During the winter, I kind of curse her for this, in the nice weather, I love her a lot for this. So in the winter, I'm liking my son a lot more, in the warmer weather, Little Miss is looking mighty fabulous!
  5. Homework Time: Have you seen what 1st Grade homework is like? Frig yeah I like my son a whole lot more this year! Until Kindergarten starts, and I will dislike both of them at that stage, so does NOT FAVORING EITHER of them count as a good thing? We'll find out next year I guess.
  6. Dinner Time: I hate to cook. We all know this. The one child who wants cereal, or some crackers with peanut butter, and some fruit, will always be my favorite child. The one who wants me to warm something up, or make macaroni will never be favored during meal time.
  7. Bed Time: Does anyone like their children at bedtime? I didn't think so. NO worries about one being favored over the other.
Seriously, my kids will be in therapy. I have to give them things to bitch about, right? It's kind of what I'm put on this planet to do, isn't it?

"My mother hates me because.......," "my mother always liked my [insert sibling gender here] more than me," and blah, blah, blah, blah. She made me take baths, and she had me brush my teeth EVERY DAY, and she made me take my vitamins no matter what (in my kids' case, it would be Juice Plus, not vitamins, but you get the idea.)

I'm a mother, I'm not a saint. I'm lucky to make it through a day without selling one of the kids on Amazon.com, or eBay. At the end of each day, as long as they are both clean, fed, and educated, I consider it a glorious day.

Do I favor one kid over the other, I'm sure they think I do. It's really all in the child's perspective. I'm equally horrible to both children. KIDDING. I have my good moments, I hope..........

In the end, the kids will always think the other sibling was favored over him, or her. It's just who we are. You can do everything in the world to keep your parenting completely balanced, but let me tell you, IT WILL NOT MATTER. Your children will all think the other one was the favorite, it's just the way it is.

Today, the favorite kid was........the dog. He aggravated me the least today, and he was pretty annoying today.
