Ooohhh, then Super Storm Sandy hit. Wiped most of our schools of this fantastic break, in the tropical month of FEBRUARY. But not our school! My kids got the entire week off. Even after the snowstorm that came down on us and basically stopped Suffolk County from operating at all - I mean, our street plowed itself, no plows came through for us until Monday night, and at that point, we had spent all day Sunday plowing our own street.
Can I charge the town for this? I should. At least Mommy and children survived winter recess.
Many schools in our area had already taken most of their winter break away to make up for Super Storm Sandy, and now, for OUR DISTRICT, instead of removing some of the days in our Winter Break, they chose to take most of our Spring Break. My kids now have TWO DAYS OFF for Spring Break, and most of the other districts have just lost the Monday of their Spring Break.
If we didn't have inadequate snow removal, our Spring Break would have just missed the Monday, off the rest of the week. But nooooooooooo, between our idiotic town, and our stupid school district, instead of enjoying warmer weather at the end of March, we got to enjoy a week of cold weather in February. WTF?
But we survived!!!! Little Miss still had Jiu Jitsu to attend, since they stayed open. The owners of the school couldn't go away for the week, since their district actually opened up on President's Day, too. They still get most of their Spring Break though, so don't cry for that district. Small sacrifice to pay!
We went to the library for programs, the boy got to play on the computers while his sister joined the programs. And then he got to go to a Puppet Show with Daddy to end the week!
Daddy had off on Monday for President's Day, so we lounged around and then went shopping for new pots for
After my very fun appointment for my yearly physical, we went to check out the local animal shelter. Let's just say there are a lot of cats who need homes, and we're not one of those families who can provide a home. Mama doesn't do cats in the house as pets. However, the kids will be able to volunteer and help take care of the cats at the shelter, so it's a big win for all of us!
The favorite night of all was the Book Club playdate at my daughter's best friend's house. All the girls read Pinkalicious, and then my daughter's best friend's Mommy read it to the kids at the book club. Even the little brothers got into the action!
Cupcakes were baked, playing was done, craft was done, cupcakes were decorated, and more playing was done. They had a ball, and The Boy always loves spending time at their house, because he is a mad nut for their drum set. If he could've spent the entire night on those drums, he would have.
I grinned tried to avert my eyes from all the f-ing pink that surrounded us, but there was no avoiding it. Pink was everywhere.....tablecloth, cupcake holders, sprinkles, icing.....TORTURE. Little Miss owes me BIG TIME for that!
Little Miss even got to attend a Swim Birthday Party for a friend from school. Thankfully her bathing suit still fit from the Summer. Many moms had to run to the stores to pick one up for the party. LOL. There are advantages to having kids who grow at such a slow pace! Or I'd be cursing everyone out!
Mommy...and children survived winter recess. If we have any more snow days off from school, I will have a mental breakdown.....and it won't be pretty. The thought of the kids losing any more warm weather days off will send me over the edge........I'm not what that edge will be, but it will probably hurt if I go over it.
Fingers crossed for NO MORE SNOW on Long Island.
PS-We might NOT have survived if that drum set was in our home. Just sayin'.
