| This is all the kids I can handle. |
I had heard about a PreK program not far from our home, close enough where I can drop Little Miss off at Kindergarten each morning and run The Boy over to the school three mornings a week. It was inexpensive and came highly recommended. I soon found out why it was so inexpensive......it's what they call a "parent participating school". Ever heard of such nonsense? I hadn't. I almost choked when I read what it meant.
Let me give you a little background about me: I don't actually like kids. I know, I have two of my own whom I love more than my luggage (if you know Steel Magnolias, you'll understand that reference). However, I'm not a big lover of "kids" en mass if you know what I mean. My nephews and my niece, love them. Start adding kids to that little group, I start to sweat, my chest starts pounding and my head starts to spin. If you aren't related to me, or a friend whose kids I love - then you really don't want me around your kids. Especially if they are fresh, sassy or have no idea what discipline means - because they've never had it.
Now that you understand a bit more about me, you can understand why I came close to passing out when I read the following: "..at all times during class there is a teacher, an assistant and a parent. The parent's rotate throughout the year based on a calendar put together by the school. This gives you several times during the year to be in your child's class to see what they are doing, how they are progressing...."
You want me to do what now? Be in the classroom with 17 kids, all at once? Are you out of your mind? If I wanted that I'd be a part of the Duggar Family, or I would have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars and become a TEACHER! I'm the mother of TWO kids. I want my kid to go to school, learn, do an occasional school trip with the class and be a class mom, but I don't want to be IN THE CLASSROOM for a huge chunk of the year.
Needless to say, my friends, I'll be heading back out there to find another PreK program better suited for
My chest is still pounding over this.....

Staci, I understand. I get the same way around a large group of kids. Oy, the noise!
ReplyDeleteFollowing from voiceBoks. Thanks for following me on Facebook!
I just can't take the talking back and when they start chattering and I can't understand what they're saying. I feel dumb.....because I can't understand their jibber jabber. LOL. Twisted.
ReplyDeleteBut mostly, I wouldn't be able to hold my tongue if a child was disrespectful to me, a teacher or another child. I'd have to throw down with a three year old....
