Day One: Slimmer The New Mediterranean Way to Lose Weight

It's always fun to try new things. I'm a big fan of pushing myself to do what I normally would never do. I'm not big on cooking, but I felt a real pull to do a complete review of a new book I got my hands on recently for review on my blog, November Sunflower.

I did a basic review on how I felt the book would be worth the money, because if you're a lover of lots of variety in your weight loss journey, this book is filled with amazing recipes for lunch, dinner, and snacks. However, I can only take a review over on the other blog so far.....it's not really about health, and weight loss over at November Sunflower. Soooo, I figured, I'd document my way through the book with you guys!

Brace yourselves......this news I'm about to share may cause you to faint. So sit down, get comfy.....are you ready? I'm cooking.

If you fainted, this is where you can start reading again......

I sat down with the book, went through the first week of meals, made a list, and sent the hubby to get all the various items I'd need to get this party started. He didn't even question it.......he knows me so well. If he had questioned it, he would have been the whole reason I didn't do it, and I'd blame him forever. He just took the list quietly, did his magic with the list, the sales, and the coupons.

Yesterday it sunk in, and I got this queasy feeling in my gutt......CRAP, what was I thinking? I have no cooking skills! I'm doomed!

But hey, I wanted to push myself to do something I'd normally run away screaming from, right? Right!

Breakfast was fairly easy. It's basic stuff, I didn't even have to cook. Just made toast.

The mid-morning snack was Greek Yogurt. Nothing to cook there. Lunch was a Slimmer version of a Chef's Salad. When I hear the word salad, I don't normally think you need a recipe to make it slimmer......basically, it was the portions of what to put in the salad, and the homemade dressing that makes it slimmer.

Now, I had no time to photograph that salad, because I literally threw it together, shoved it in the fridge, ran to get my daughter at school, ran back home, and shoveled it into my pie hole before taking her to a library program.

Getting home after the library program, I put together my afternoon snack of Greek yogurt, with apples, raisins and cinnamon. It was interesting......hoping I can replace that with something else in the future. Too tangy for me. No picture, either. Sorry. I was lucky to get it down!

Then, it was cooking time........dinner was a recipe that required actual cooking. I had to make chicken, with onions, mushrooms, white wine, and more, OH MY! I always get a little nervous putting things together, because it never works out how the recipe says it'll work out. Mine's always too watery, when it should be thicker, or thicker when it should be more like a broth.

It was no different this time around. My chicken was fine, but the "creme" to go with it......kind of not as thick as it should've been, and it kind of separated. Not sure what I did wrong, but I would imagine I had too much water happening from the fact that I had to pull the onions out of the freezer, and they didn't have time to defrost. WHOOPS.

With all the issues, though, it tasted good. It was matched with a tossed salad. All this salad, it's already getting to me. I may have to swap out the salads at dinner time, if I'm having another one at lunch. I like a salad, but man, too much of a good thing will get you down!

PHOTO OF DINNER.

My take on the first day: Jam packed with flavor, and most of it was rather delicious!

I had a late start on my meal intake, so everything was kind eaten later than I should have eaten. I felt like I was just eating from the minute I got up, until the time I sat down to read before bed. It was my fault, though. Breakfast was late, which pushed everything else off all day.

Tomorrow's another day!
